What kind of dance is Amapiano?
Amapiano is a laidback, smooth yet hard-hitting street dance style originating in the townships of South Africa in the late 2010s. It blends house rhythms with percussive log drum beats.
Do I need a partner for this class?
While Amapiano has a strong partner dance foundation, no partner is required. The course covers both individual and partnered Amapiano movements.
How difficult is the choreography?
The choreography has a heavy improvisational focus, flowing with Amapiano’s soulful groove. Beginners are welcome, but some dance experience is helpful.
What should I wear to class?
Wear moveable, breathable exercise attire and shoes with good traction and support. You’ll be working on rhythmic footwork and floorwork.
Is there an end-of-course performance?
Yes, the final weeks involve choreographing an informal Amapiano performance pieced together in class to display what you’ve learned.
