Over 12 lessons, you’ll learn to movement techniques to embody Amapiano’s distinctive cool, laidback vibe.

More than choreography, you’ll explore Amapiano’s roots in the underground party scene of Pretoria and how it provides an uplifting creative outlet for the youth. Build improvisational skills for Amapiano’s free-flowing, mirrored partner style of dance.

Amapiano is a laidback, smooth yet hard-hitting street dance style originating in the townships of South Africa in the late 2010s. It blends house rhythms with percussive log drum beats.

Do I need a partner for this class?

While Amapiano has a strong partner dance foundation, no partner is required. The course covers both individual and partnered Amapiano movements.

How difficult is the choreography?

The choreography has a heavy improvisational focus, flowing with Amapiano’s soulful groove. Beginners are welcome, but some dance experience is helpful.

What should I wear to class?

Wear moveable, breathable exercise attire and shoes with good traction and support. You’ll be working on rhythmic footwork and floorwork.

Is there an end-of-course performance?

Yes, the final weeks involve choreographing an informal Amapiano performance pieced together in class to display what you’ve learned.
